Riverside renewal: Bratislava’s modern heart

Eurovea - Bratislava, Slovakia

OVERVIEW

Eurovea in Bratislava is more than just a waterfront development. Inspired in response to Slovakia’s independence, it became an emblem of the city’s re-emergence as a major European capital, and a statement of intent for this beautiful, historic place.

Ballymore transformed nine hectares of riverside into an entirely new mixed-use development and a focal point for the city. Opening onto the wide expanse of the Danube, crafted in stone and glass, and framed between historic bridges, Eurovea raised the bar for what Bratislava could be and was a bigger, bolder concept: 55,000 sq m of retail, leisure and entertainment space; 23,000 sq m of Class A office accommodation; 250 riverfront apartments.

International retail brands from Cos and Nespresso to H&M and Tag Heuer took on the shops within the new project, while multiple restaurants and bars, a nine-screen cinema and five-star Sheraton hotel also moved in.

This quickly became a place for people to fully use, enjoy and bring to life: squares and a landscaped park are utilised throughout the day, by residents of the on-site apartments as well as incoming residents from neighbouring streets and those who commute here to work in the offices. Overall, more than 12 million visitors come to Eurovea each year, with the development receiving industry awards for its excellence, innovation and contribution to placemaking. It’s a connection point between the city and the water.

Now established for more than 15 years, Eurovea is firmly established as a key part of Slovakia’s ongoing story. An award-winning hub and the first project of its kind in Slovakia to win the MAPIC Best Retail Development Award, it is a prime example of how the right redevelopment doesn’t just unlock a city’s potential, but inspires its growth, confidence and progress.

“As an example of how to manage new developments in emerging markets, it is hard to improve on Eurovea.”

The Eurovea development brings a thoroughly modern mix of residential, retail, hotel and workspace to the edge of a historic city centre.

“This development is a good example of Ballymore’s strengths and pulls together everything we have learned about large scale development over the last 25 years.”
