Senior Property Accountant

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join our Finance team, based in Canary Wharf. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is integral to ensuring robust financial management and reporting across a portfolio of developments.

Contract: Permanent
Hours: 40 per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Canary Wharf

The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Ensuring the timely production of certified service charge accounts
  • Providing accurate, up-to-date financial information to Property Directors and leaseholders
  • Building strong working relationships with Property Directors, meeting regularly to appraise all financial matters affecting assigned schemes
  • Leading on annual budgeting, service charge demands, and supporting service charge and ground rent collections
  • Monitoring arrears and reporting accordingly
  • Reviewing, controlling and authorising all client bank account expenditures
  • Completing monthly bank reconciliations for all developments
  • Preparing annual and interim service charge accounts in line with best practice and liaising with auditors
  • Calculating final apportionments, balancing charges, credits, and landlord voids in accordance with lease terms
  • Preparing void schedules, forecasts, and financial reviews for new developments
  • Producing monthly VAT reports and ground rent summaries for clients
  • Preparing management reports, including actual versus budgeted expenditure with full variance explanations
  • Uploading year-end adjustments and managing ledger postings
  • Ensuring accounting records are transparent and available for inspection when required
  • Handling leaseholder and client enquiries in a professional, timely manner
  • Supporting budgeting cycles and reporting progress against plans
  • Monitoring insurance activity to ensure proper segregation of funds
  • Assisting with internal and external audits and ensuring compliance with client money regulations
  • Maintaining robust internal controls and carrying out internal audits of accounting procedures
  • Attending Resident Association (RA) meetings and presentations, including occasional out-of-hours commitments

Required skills and experience

  • Ideally qualified ACA, ACCA or MAAT, or qualified by experience and actively working towards a professional qualification.
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience of managing service charge accounting.
  • Good experience of service charge reporting gained either in practice or in the finance department of a Residential Managing Agent
  • Knowledge of PROPMAN is an advantage
