Job Description

Senior Legal Counsel - Permanent, Canary Wharf

Hours: 40 per week, 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday

As a trusted adviser to the business, you will play a key role in delivering commercially-focused and legally robust solutions across the full breadth of Ballymore’s activities, including development, construction, asset management, finance, compliance and sales.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing high-profile legal matters: Instructing and overseeing external counsel on major, market-leading real estate transactions as well as day-to-day legal work.
  • Supporting colleagues across the business: Advising teams on a wide range of legal issues and progressing transactions to meet commercial timescales.
  • Risk and compliance: Assisting the Group General Counsel in implementing and maintaining group-wide risk management frameworks, with a focus on enterprise risk, GDPR, AML and Anti-Bribery processes.
  • Corporate governance: Helping manage corporate governance and compliance matters.
  • Regulatory navigation: Advising the business on evolving regulatory requirements, including the Building Safety Act 2022, Renters Rights Act 2025 and the anticipated Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill.
  • Legal risk mitigation: Supporting the detection, prevention and management of legal risks across the organisation.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and strong commercial judgement. The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5–8 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally gained at a leading law firm with a strong reputation in real estate development work.
  • Demonstrable experience acting for major real estate developers.
  • A commercial, solutions-focused approach to legal advice.
  • The desire to operate as a generalist within a dynamic real estate development business.
  • The ability to handle a varied, fast-moving workload and remain calm under pressure.
  • Flexibility and openness to dealing with ad hoc or unfamiliar areas of law.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the business, including senior management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities—able to simplify complex issues with confidence.
  • Previous in-house or secondment experience (desirable).
  • Experience advising on mixed-use residential-led development and Building Safety Act matters (desirable).

We operate as an equal opportunities employer.
