Head of Technical Services (FM) - Permanent, Canary Wharf

Hours: 40 per week, 08.30am - 17.30pm Monday to Friday

Duties & Responsibilities 

The Head of Technical Services will provide strategic leadership, commercial acumen and direction to our development teams consistently delivering a high-level service, ensuring that all facilities are compliant from a statutory perspective and managed in line with the warranty requirements.  The postholder will be responsible for delivering this service by leading and developing the facilities team alongside the Head of Facilities and Infrastructure.

This will include aiding the Head of Facilities in the strategic direction and line management of the FM department with a remit including Technical Services, Business Continuity, Long Term Maintenance, Building Surveying, Project Management and the Handover of New Developments.

  • To support the Head of Facilities and Infrastructure in all matters when that person is absent on an as and when basis
  • Assist in the delivery of contract management (portfolio wide contracts) including those in place for M&E services, CCTV, security systems, supporting sites with escalations and performance management issues.
  • Develop and scope out M&E contract and renewals supporting the Procurement Manager.
  • To work with the Property Team and Procurement to assist in the delivery of major works projects identified in the respective Capex plans 
  • Maintain capex documents and CAFM systems in relation to asset condition 
  • Assisting with the contribution to the development of the wider strategy for FM services and provide input on related company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of contract management and compliance across the portfolio
  • To ensure that all management services are carried out in compliance with current legislation and in accordance with relevant ACOPs including those defined by RICS, BIFM, ARMA and other applicable governing and professional bodies within the industry.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in Facilities Management, Building Services or a related discipline.
  • To hold membership of a relevant professional body including IWFM, CIBSE or RICS.
  • To hold, or be working towards, technical or graduate membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH/GradIOSH).
  • Hold a, NEBOSH or IOSH accredited qualification in Health & Safety.
  • Experience in the verification, snagging and defect identification of engineering systems.
  • Experience in the review and summary of technical O&M documentation.
  • Experience in managing external contractors and consultants.
  • Make sure all written communication is presented in a professional manner ensuring grammar, spelling, and format are appropriate for the recipient and purpose.
  • Ensure problems that arise are dealt with and solutions found to ensure delivery to clients.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make decisions both independently and collectively, having first evaluated all options.  Support decisions with factual information.
  • Assess own performance and attributes, actively seeking support to meet development needs and demonstrate an awareness of the impact on others.
