London Festival of Architecture comes to Embassy Gardens
This June, London’s finest architectural plans, projects and minds will once again be on show during the annual London Festival of Architecture; a month-long, citywide celebration of architectural experimentation, thinking and practice. Within this year’s programme, two major projects at Embassy Gardens in Nine Elms on the South Bank will be showcased: the iconic ‘Sky Pool’ and the new Nine Elms Park. They form part of the showcase of current and future developments in Nine Elms, an area which is currently undergoing one of the greatest regeneration efforts in Europe. In a LFA programme highlight, on the evening of Wednesday 8th June visitors to Embassy Gardens can hear from HAL Architects and Eckersley O’Callaghan, the designers and engineers behind the Sky Pool, a transparent swimming pool which will connect two buildings at Embassy Gardens at 35m high. The project has already amassed some fame and will become a landmark on the already impressive South Bank skyline.

On the afternoon of Friday 17th June, a talk and walking tour will explore the new Nine Elms Gardens, a New York-inspired linear park which will run from Vauxhall to Battersea Power Station. Led by Huw Morgan, the landscape architect behind the Embassy Gardens section of Nine Elms Gardens, members of the public will have the opportunity to learn how the space is being created. The tour will start at the Embassy Gardens marketing suite which is landscaped to represent how the park will look when complete, bringing a wealth of varied plant life and landscaping to the area. The tour will then continue West towards Battersea Park, taking in the completed sections of the new park, and finish in the Ambassador Building first floor garden with views of the new US Embassy and across London.

The LFA is a city-wide event which brings together designers, architects and curators to share ideas on architecture and its impact on the capital. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Community’, and the new additions to the Nine Elms area, one of London’s most exciting new communities, will be a consistent topic of reference during both events at Embassy Gardens.
