Ballymore launches Dawsonne House at London City Island
Ballymore, one of London’s most prominent property developers, has unveiled plans for Dawsonne House, located in its iconic London City Island development. This news follows the standout success of the launch of phase two, which included the announcement that English National Ballet (ENB) will relocate to the island in 2018. Notably, at Dawsonne House there will be unique garden apartments boasting stunning private outside space. The block will also benefit from its position, which is adjacent to the new ENB headquarters and Trinity Square. The square will play host to cultural performances and will be surrounded by boutique shops, artists’ studios and unique cafés and restaurants. Residents and visitors will also be able to catch a glimpse of ENB rehearsing through floor-to-ceiling glass, a notable feature of this architecturally striking building. Glenn Howells Architects are responsible for London City Island’s architectural design, drawing inspiration from world cities such as Chicago, Tokyo and Manhattan. Bright seafaring-inspired hues have been used throughout the development, with a single striking colour in glossy brickwork chosen for each of the buildings. With waterside walkways, and the River Lea surrounding the development, the island’s identity takes much of its inspiration from London’s rich riverside heritage. The apartments themselves boast a warehouse aesthetic with generous open plan living spaces and loft style features. They draw design inspiration from the history of Leamouth and the creative energy of East London. Residents at City Island will also have exclusive access to The City Island Arts Club, a private resident’s club with screening room, gym, concierge service and a striking swimming pool which is vibrant red in colour. This ‘mini Manhattan’ of London boasts a 260ft iconic red bridge linking the island to Canning Town, making it one of the best connected developments in the capital. The striking piece of construction connects the island to the rest of London by spanning the Leamouth Peninsula, offering fast access to Canary Wharf (four minutes), the West End (Bond Street in 20 minutes) and the City (London Bridge in 11 minutes).
