Bright Young Things Film Club is partnering with Ballymore to host a summer series of film screenings every Thursday evening in July at Embassy Gardens. Embassy Gardens is a new residential development at the heart of Nine Elms on the South Bank, wrapping around the new US Embassy. The developments private cinema The Maureen O’Hara provides the perfect setting for showcasing this series of films by critically-acclaimed directors. The films being screened are: Adult Life Skills, Mahout: The Great Elephant Walk, Disorder and Cartel Land – further information on each below. Tickets for the films are free and complimentary drinks and snacks will be on offer from Fiji Water, Green & Blacks Ice Cream and Propercorn. The Bright Young Things Film Club was created by Bridget Arsenault and Fatima Martinez-Moxon to support and feature the work of young, up and coming actors and filmmakers. It aims to be fashionable and glamorous while also remaining affordable, accessible and fun. At Embassy Gardens, each screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the director(s), offering guests a rare opportunity to find out more about the making of and stories behind the films. Thursday 7th July: Adult Life Skills In Rachel Tunnard’s debut feature, Jodie Whittaker plays 29 year old Yorkshire woman, Anna, who is living in her mum’s shed and doing her best to push everyone away in order to be alone with her memories and niche obsessions. Being released only one week before its Embassy Gardens screening, Rachel Tunnard will be attending in person to answer questions after the screening. This event is not to be missed, given Tunnard’s recent win of the highly coveted Nora Ephron prize for this film at Tribeca Film Festival. Thursday 14th July: Mahout: The Great Elephant Walk Narrated by Stephen Fry, this film follows the story of ex-London city worker, now eco-lodge owner Tim Edwards, who needs to relocate four elephants between two national parks in southern Nepal. In this expedition, he must overcome teeming cities, searing heat, monsoon rains and untamed jungle. Filmakers James Wylson and James Dartnall showcase true British talent in directing and editing this documentary and have won the top prize at the London Independent Film awards. Thursday 21st July: Disorder Matthias Shoenaerts plays the PTSD-afflicted Vincent in this narrative of a soldier back from Afghanistan and serving as a security detail in the home of a wealthy Lebanese businessman. In this film, we see the unfolding narrative though paranoid eyes and hair-trigger responses, in which Vincent becomes the paid-for protector of the businessman’s trophy wife. In this film, writer and director Alice Wincour has been able to portray both tenderness and fraught tensions. Available for Q&A via Skype, guests can find out more about her choice of actor Matthias Schoenaerts, who also starred in The Danish Girl and Far From the Madding Crowd. Thursday 28th July: Cartel Land This chilling film is an on-the-ground look at the journeys of two modern-day vigilante groups and their enemy, the murderous Mexican drug cartels. Filmmaker Matthew Heineman embeds himself in darkness as the two vigilante leaders each vie to bring their own brand of justice to a broken society. Already one of the most talked about documentaries of the year, BAFTA and Oscar nominations have propelled it to further success.
